Nicola Jarvis – Artist and Hand Embroiderer

‘Sharing joy and beauty’ is what inspires Nicola to teach the skills and aesthetics of hand embroidery.  Joy through the discovery and mastery of these ancient and intimate skills, and for the beauty inherent in exquisite colour schemes, mesmerising patterns, stitch techniques and materials.

Her love of colour, pattern and texture led her to train on the three-year apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court Palace.  There she underwent a deep learning of her craft and began a life-long career as an embroidery designer and teacher.

With a Certificate in Education awarded by the University of Greenwich and a First Class BA Honours and Masters in Fine Art, Nicola teaches all over the world.  She runs an exclusive Art Embroidery Club in her studio, is a lead tutor in Art and Design at the Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace and visiting lecturer on the BA Textiles Degree programmes at Leicester De Montfort University.

Nicola is a gifted teacher who enjoys both building skills and confidence with novices and challenging students with advanced skills and experience in the field.
